Dfine has new wheels!

Being a Cairns Photographer isn't always easy on a motorbike!

Being a Cairns Photographer isn't always easy on a motorbike!

So being a Cairns photographer when your only transport is a motorbike isn't always easy! This is very obvious when the wet season comes calling...So after 22 years as a motorbike rider, I have finally relented and got a 'cage'...

Oh!, the bike is still with me, it just shares a garage now with 'Fifi La Belle' the cheeky little French Renault. Jealousy has been kept to a minimum, with the understanding that this is a work car, and the bike comes first in all other respects...

This little car is definitely making carting all the gear around just a little easier, she will be off to the sign writers soon for a little extra bling...

Getting camera fit...

So my exploration with the Fuji XT-10 continues. I am slowly but surely using the Fuji at every opportunity, and seeing how the little Fuji handles. Unfortunately, time constraints always make getting to locations a bit of a hassle most days.

I was coming back into Cairns from the North side just before sunset. I hadn't tried any sunset shooting with the Fuji as yet. I was interested in seeing the dynamic range and how far I could push the files if necessary. So I pulled over on the side of the highway and started seeing what I could do.

The following file is a single exposure as I wanted to see how hard I could push the shadows etc on the Fuji files. Not as good as my Nikon overall I would say, so I will have to be a little more careful on the exposure. But overall so far I am very happy with what the Fuji is capable of.

Niggling doubts...

cairns.night.blackandwhite

In a few months I am off to Japan for a few weeks. This is purely a personal photography trip for me. So, I decided to try a lighter alternative in regards to camera gear for this trip. So I picked up the wonderful little retro Fuji XT-10 (Check it out here) also the 18-55 and the 55-200 lenses. I am still undecided on the 14mm Wide angle lens and might rent this lens for the trip.

I love night photography, especially when travelling. I have tried out the body and lens combo during the day. (I have been so busy this has been limited to shooting from my balcony whilst having a morning coffee) I am happy that during daylight, the Fuji XT-10 will produce fantastic image quality for the trip. But...

The deal breaker is this "Will the XT-10 perform at night and for long exposure photography?".
I had to head down to my local shopping centre the other night. This was the first opportunity I had to try out a night time long exposure. OK, OK so it's not the greatest location or subject but it gave me an idea on whether the XT-10 will cut it for the trip.

Short answer...Yes! I was more than happy with the quality and clean files that resulted. Pack your stuff Fuji. You'll be heading home soon!

A Year in Far North Queensland

Was surprised and very happy to have 3 of my photos displayed as part of the ABC (Far North) "A Year In Far North Queensland" - photographed by you. The diverse nature of the images give a great representation of our region that we are so lucky to live in. Have a look at some of the many talented photographers that are in the region.
